The California Arrow is a model rocketry project being undertaken by me and my son, Peter. This site will serve to chronicle the entire project. First let me explain how we got here. We had just finished attaining our NAR & Tripoli Level 2 certifications at the PlasterBlaster launch in 2002 and were eager to start something really big for the next year's launch. On the drive home, our conversation turned to 'How big is big' and we started discussing the X-Prize. Well, an X-Prize entry seemed a little much, but we thought that one of the X-Prize contestants might prove a suitable modeling subject. When we got back to town and started looking at the X-Prize site we found just what we were looking for, the Canadian Arrow, a Canadian X-Prize contender. Oops, a little background is in order. My family and I are expatriate Canadians having moved here to sunny San Diego in 1992. The full scale Canadian Arrow is a formidable subject. It is a 54 foot long two stage, 3 passenger vehicle based on the venerable V2. We are going to build a 1/6th scale version measuring just over 8 feet in height complete with both stages, 5 motors and all 8 parachutes! It is going to be a huge undertaking but we have time and tons of enthusiasm. Please check back often. We'll being updating this site regularly as we progress with the project. Thanks for your interest!
